Nelly, a beagle puppy, had a very rough start since the day she was born. She was used for testing in a laboratory, she was sold for experimentation and was later abandoned. As time went by, she was shot and was left for dead with two other assassinated puppies in a locked cage with little space to breathe or move. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Animal Testing Is A Cruel And Useless" essay for you Create order They were left on the side of a lonely road, lost, somewhere in Florida. Nelly, the beagle, deserved better. All of the other animals used for testing, deserve better.Animal testing is a major problem around the US and around the world, it needs to be addressed.Preview 3 main points (1 point each = 3 points): animal testing, why is it wrong, how to stop itEstablish Credibility (1à points): As a pet owner, I was interested in the topic so I did further research. I. First Main Point ââ¬Å" description of the problem (3à à points): Animal testing is a cruel and useless, it does not work and only causes harm to hundreds of thousands of harmless animals.A. Subpoint: Animal testing is based when scientists use animals in studies and experiments in order to prove a theory or see how they react to a chemical or trial. Each year, millions of animals including dogs, cats, monkeys, and mice experience cruelty because of these tests and experiments. Throughout this time, the creatures have to breathe in test substances and run the risk that they are toxic.1. Sub-subpoint: As stated on the BBC website, scientists experiment on animals for basic research, investigating potential treatments for human disease, safety and quality control testing of drugs and to explore how organisms function. (Katsnelson, 2013) Most people can agree that animal experimentation is not only outdated but it is immoral and painful as well. However, there are a lot of people who have wrong perception that this practice is necessary for medicine to keep developing and improving. There are several cases that show what they have to go through and the cruelty tested animals experiment. For example, in the state of Virginia scientists forgot to remove one of the rats they used in their experiment out of the cage, and took it to a cage washing system. When the cages are washed, they reach temperatures higher than 180 degrees Celsius, causing the rat to suffer and ultimately die. In another experiment, mice were put in a swimming pool, after a specific time interval researchers placed a wire net that drowned them and did not let them get out. They were underwater for about 30 seconds, to see the effects of underwater trauma. This is an unnecessary practice and torture for the test subjects. And like these, every day, hundreds of thousands of animals, including cats, monkeys, rabbits and dogs, are forced to suffer in laboratories and undergo burning and uncomfortable experiments. One of the first disagreements over animal testing took place about 60 years ago with a published article about Pepper, a dog that was used as a test subject. Pepper was a farmers dog that was kidnapped from his property and was later sold into experimentation. Scientists tried to place an experimental cardiac pacemaker in his body, which led to the dog dying.(Transition point) Furthermore, this is why animal testing is ineffective.II. Second Main Point description of the cause or causes (3à points): Animals are very different from human beings, making them unsuccessful test subjectsA. Subpoint: There are many variances between animals and people that make them poor models for humans, including anatomic and cellular differences.Sub-subpoint: Several years ago, scientist found a relationship between cancer and tobacco use. There was strong data that backed up this information, so it was believed to be true. Researchers used animal and tested them to see how their bodies would react to the tobacco and whether or not it caused them to have cancer. After testing it frequent times, the tobacco did not seem to produce cancer in the animals, so this theory was rejected. Therefore, warnings regarding the dangers of cigarettes and tobacco were rule as false for many years. This shows that only a small portion of substances that are known to produce cancer in humans, cause cancer in animals as well, which makes them poor models. There was another medicine that was used to treat arthritis. After being tested in monkeys several times it was found to be safe, therefore could be used in humans. This medicine has now caused more than three hundred and twenty thousand heart attacks and strokes and about one hundred and forty thousand deaths around the world. According to cruelty free international, out of 93 dangerous drug side effects, only 19% could have been predicted by animal tests. (Against Animal Testing, 2018) About two years ago in Europe, a drug to treat Parkinsons disease was tested in animals to see if it was safe. It was ruled to be fine after it was given to four different species of animals, including mice, rats, dogs, and monkeys and they were all fine. However, when given to people it killed one volunteer and caused other four volunteers to suffer with severe brain damage, ruining their lives forever. (Transitionà point) So what other methods can be used?II. Third Main Point ââ¬Å" description of the solution (3 points): There are other alternatives researchers can use instead of animal testing.A. Subpoint: There is no evidence that animal experiments were needed and essential in making major medical advances. If enough money and resources were dedicated to animal-free substitutes, other solutions could be used. 1. Sub-subpoint: According to www.peta.org, alternatives to animal testing include sophisticated tests using human cells and tissues, advanced computer-modeling techniques, and studies with human volunteers. Investigators have created organ on chips that can be used instead of animals. In these chips human cells are grown to do perform the functions of the organs and the organ system as well as to simulate the structure of them. (Peta, 2018) With the new technology, we now have computer models that can show how diseases progress inside the body and models that mimic human biology. It has been found that these models are an accurate prediction of how medicines will react in humans, without having to use animals which most of the time are unreliable. Also, there is a method called micro dosing, that can provide fundamental evidence on how safe an experimental drug is before giving them to humans, especially in large-scale trials. With this way of testing, volunteers are given a very small dose of the medicine and it is only one time. Then, they are monitored closely to see how it reacts in the body and the possible effects of the drug. Mechanized human-patient simulators that are able to breathe, bleed, talk, and even die have shown to be better at teaching students than exercises that implicate using animals.(Transitionà point) In conclusion,Conclusion ââ¬Å" To Include: Summary Statement (1à points): Animal testing is still a huge concern today that harms millions of animals per year; however, other alternatives such as organ-on chips, computer models and micro dosing can eradicate this problem.Revisit the Thesis (1à points): The evidence provided shows that animal testing is not effective, and that they are poor models for humans.Reviewed Three Main Points (1 point each = 3 points): animal testing, why is it wrong, how to stop itEnding Statement (5 points)ââ¬Å" try to finish with a BANG So picture yourself in a place you dont know, locked up without any room for movement. People you do not know come and go every couple of hours and rub things into your skin that burns and makes it bleed. They put substances in your eyes that makes you go blind. Imagine being alone and helpless, with people who is waiting to see what makes you die. These are only a few things animals go through during testing, a change needs to be made.(3) APA Style References Against Animal Testing. (n.d.). Coral Reef Essay - 1191 Words
Coral reefs are found in shallow tropical waters and are most commonly present along island and continental shores. Economically, these reefs present a major source of income and resources for their local communities. Without them, crucial elements of tourism, fishing, coastal protection, and even pharmaceutical discovery would be missing. According to the US Department of State, tourism is the fastest growing coral reef-associated sector of the economy as approximately 100 million tourists visit the Caribbean alone generating an estimated $1 billion in a mere seven-year span of time (Hoegh-Guldberg, 1999). These numbers are only expected to grow. Similarly, fisheries associated with coral reefs employ millions of fishers and produceâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The relationship between corals and their symbiotic dinoflagellates is the main factor in the evolutionary success of reef-building corals. The endosymbiotic algae are the source of numerous benefits for the corals and are t he main contributor to the long-term survival of coral reefs over time (Muller-Parker et al. 2015). This symbiotic relationship occurs because the algae live within the tissues of the coral and, through photosynthesis, provide a reliable source of nutrients to their hosts. These activities provide the coral with a fixed source of carbon compounds for energy, enhance the calcification process, and help maintain healthy nutrient homeostasis. In return, the host coral provides a protective environment for the algae to live within and a reliable supply of carbon dioxide that can be used in its photosynthetic processes. This mutualistic relationship allows the normally slow growing corals to compete with the other faster growing species because of the efficient trading of resources between the symbiotic organisms. It drastically improves productivity as it allows the corals to feed by day through photosynthesis but still rely on predation to feed at night when photosynthetic processes ar e no longer available (Buchheim, 2013). Compared to other benthic species, corals have an immense competitive edge as they can thrive in seawater whereShow MoreRelatedCoral Reefs Essay722 Words à |à 3 PagesCoral reefs are very diverse ecosystems. Lacks a Base on the Traditions and Customs in Which Employees
Question: Discuss Lacks A Base on the Traditions and Customs in Which Employees? Answer: Introduction The reputation of 7-eleven has for the past few years spiraled down due to practices within the company that is unacceptable in the society. The company lacks a base on the expected traditions and customs in which employees, customers, and suppliers relate. It activities has been on news for the past years for numerous scandals concerning the treatment of its employees. The 7-eleven is a franchise worth billions of dollars and has its stores across Australia. These give a glimpse of how big companies are able to conduct their businesses and being able to contain its practices regardless of their nature. Although the company had been investigating in 2008 by the Fair Work Ombudsman, the abuse went on for long and no mechanism had detected it before it went out of hand. According to Thor Schultz (2016), the expose of the franchise requires it to have a commitment to workers protection by having a code of conduct that would be used to regulate the operations of the company. This requires the company to have a fair treatment of its employees and transparency in the payment of employees. Employees had severely been underpaid; this became a major cause for alarm. Therefore, for image restoration and improvement of reputation, the company must restructure its systems to accommodate public scrutiny of its activities. This paper outlines the code of conduct that the franchise can adopt to ensure that it addresses issues that led to the scandal. Code of conduct principles Uphold honesty and integrity These are integral values that the franchise should base its actions and decisions so as to create an environment in which all the stakeholders are satisfied with the operations. The 7-eleven management practices concerning employees should be transparent and allow for the consent of the employees. Employees should be treated as required by the guidelines given by the Australian workplace laws. The franchise must stop falsifying data to conceal their operations but rather provide facts about the organization. The franchise has a responsibility towards its actions and accountable to its employees. They must show commitment to a meaningful auditing of stores data and not a cover up the activity that protects unlawful practices. Employee complaints must be given meaningful considerations and show commitment to resolving them. All financial accounting must be communicated to the employees to ensure transparency and accountability. Avoid exploitation of employees The 7-eleven franchise has a diverse workforce ranging from locals and international employees residing in Australia. A large percentage of the demographics are international students who are in the country on a student visa. Many of them were careful not report the misconduct of their employees as they were afraid of being reprimanded by the management (SBS. 2016). The organization must show commitment to stopping bullying, discrimination, and harassment of employees and create systems that do not tolerate such behaviors. This creates a supportive environment for the employees where all their concerns are heard and given considerations. The company should avoid taking advantage of foreign students because of their status in the country but rather treat them as expected by the laws that govern employment in Australia. Payments should be made according to the agreement and the expected pay for the work done (The Guardian, 2016). The management should provide a safe working environment for the employees through the guidelines given by the local government and the internationals bodies responsible for rights of employees. The workplace environment should be stress-free to avoid causing mental problems. Many employees within the organization have gone through psychological trauma due to long working hours and less payment for the work. Foreign students should feel comfortable in a foreign country and where they are able to earn like their fellow employees from within the country. The organization should formulate policies that govern practices that may affect employee health. Avoid discrimination against employees According to Background briefing (2016), the franchise employees are mostly foreign students who have been caught up in the scandal as the main victims. The company has had a history of discriminating against employees for various reasons such as age, race, disability and residential status. There have been cases on news agencies of occurrences of such discriminatory practices. In 2016 a lawsuit was filed by an employee working in a store owned by the company for discriminating him because of his disability. The management was unsympathetic towards the employee and they considered him slow without recognizing their disability and fired them. The race has become a major issue that world has struggled to adjust to in everyday activities. Stereotypes on races exist and have affected workplace dynamics and managements are struggling to navigate through the quest to treat all races equally. 7-eleven has been caught up in a row on race discrimination against employees. Racial discrimination has been reported in some 7-eleven stores and lawsuits have been filed by victims of these actions. The organization should formulate policies to prevent discrimination against employees based on their race. The company must show commitment to stopping these practices and give an opportunity for anyone to work in the organization. The management should change the systems that oversee productivity of workers as the current system does not allow employment opportunities for anyone. This damages the image of the organization as it currently owns stores in different countries across the world. Diversity brings a positive influence to the organization through the creation of collaboration of employees. Avoid improper payments practices The system used by the 7-eleven system has been manipulated to cover up for employee exploitation. The management deliberately formulated a procedure that forcefully cut employee payments back to the company. Corruption within the management had become rampant and employees have missed their payments and some lost their jobs without compensation or pay for the work they had done. The management laundered money from the company and carefully concealing their actions through series of financial transactions that were in favor of their side of the story. From exposes on the franchise, the organization should formulate policies that monitor and regulate financial transactions done by the management. To achieve this organization should keep all its records on transactions made for future reference and which builds trust between management, employees, and the customers. Accountability reduces lawsuits that may arise when the business practices are questionable and do not follow outlined rules and regulations. This will reduce improper transactions and increase accountability of finances that the company receives and spends. It creates transparency which results in an efficiency of workflow and employee satisfaction. This reduces wastages of resources owned by the organization and enhances their utilization. Corruption is a hindrance to advancement and development of any organization. Whistleblower protection Internal whistleblowers risk their job to expose misconduct within workplaces. They are vulnerable to reprisal from the management as they are considered snitches. 7-eleven provided and environment that was complicated for a whistleblower to access crucial information and evidence as the management hierarchy had intense complicity. The franchise is known for ruthlessly tracking down dissenters hence being a whistleblower in such an organization is risky. The situation of the case that broke in 2015 is still ongoing due to numerous setbacks as the organization has tried to cover up issues. In a report done by the Financial Review (2017), it indicated that whistleblowers risked a lot in exposing ills without personal gains in the processing. From the parliamentary joint committee inquiry indicates that there are limited legislations that protect whistleblowers in Australia. Many whistleblowers blamed the government for failing to provide protection in exposing misconduct in 7-eleven and they were forced to contend with consequences of their actions. The shortcomings in the law gave the franchise an opportunity to treat their employees however they deemed right. The increase in corporate misconduct in Australia had led to the formulation of policies by the government that governs these areas. From the committee of inquiry formed legislations that protect employees have been discussed in the parliament. This had created an opportunity to change how companies handle whistleblowers in their workforce. According to the Transparency International Australia, the government should fill the gap in whistleblower protection both in the private and public sector. This reduces the silence in workplaces and creates a safe working environment. The lack of whistleblower protection by the government is also an opportunity for the organization to formulate protection laws for whistleblowers within the organization. This includes procedures in which employees can access information that may be deemed confidential and possible consequences for whistleblowing. The company can join international bodies to provide it with whistleblowing standards and protection to individuals. The franchise has an obligation towards the employees regardless of their attitudes towards the management (Botha, M. M. 2015). Employees should not fee afraid to voice their concerns and be heard. Enforcement The code of conduct formulated by the franchise should be implemented through strategies developed to ensure its success. This reduces misconduct among employees in different hierarchy levels in the organization. This protects employees from unethical behaviors displayed by other employees (Wiese, T. 2014). Some of the strategies that the franchise can adopt to realize the success of the formulated code of conduct include: Provide clear guidelines to the expected kind of behavior in the workplace. For example, the franchise can create zero tolerant environments to discrimination and harassment of workers. Possible consequences of such behaviors should be clearly outlined in the code of conduct. Have a reward system for ethical behavior of employees. If an employee uses the expected channels to report an issue they should be rewarded fro their effort. This encourages other employees to follow suit and unethical behavior in the organization is reduced. The franchise should provide privacy to whistleblowers and complainants that are afraid of retaliation from their fellow employees. Some employees may have crucial information that involves their fellow employees which make it hard to come out and condemn their behaviors. The franchise should create an ethical panel as it is a large company with many stores across the world. Such bodies would be responsible for making judgments on employee behavior and formulating guidelines for the code of conduct in their stores. Conclusion Code of conduct is necessary for daily operation within an organization. These operations are normally intertwined therefore requires some level of regulation to ensure that activities are done as expected. It allows for smooth running of activities within the organization. Company Lifecycle in Business
Introduction Company lifecycles are the stages of development through which a business goes through. New businesses are faced with various challenges throughout their lives. Failure to deal with the problems will lead to the downfall of a business due to financial losses. The current paper focuses on the differences between the lifecycle and financial strategies adopted by a company that focuses on domestic expansion and a company that focuses on international expansion.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Company Lifecycle in Business specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Business Lifecycle Seed stage The first stage of a business is the seed stage. Business ideas and plans are developed at this stage. The challenge of this stage is market acceptance. Many companies concentrate on one market segment to enhance success. Money and resources should be used effectively during this stage. The company stipulates its focus on s uch areas as skills, experience, and passion. Other key elements of this stage include business ownership structure, business planning, and accessing professional advisors. The source of capital for expansion becomes a challenge to many companies since they rely on owners, friends, customers, banks, and government grants. A company that focuses on international expansion draws clear guidelines to attract international investors. It has to invest in a wide range of products to offset the risks of business failure. Start-Up It is the second stage in business establishment. Business exists legally at this stage. The challenges of this stage include lack of money and time for marketing. The business owners have to take time to determine whether or not the business is on the right track (Hitchcock Willard, 2012). A company focusing on domestic expansion will require reduced capital expenditure in such areas as advertising and product promotion compared to a company whose target is inter national expansion. To expand internationally, a company requires increased capital investment. It has to attract shareholders from different parts of the world to support the business (Parker, 2006). Growth At this stage, the business becomes well established. A company focusing on domestic expansion faces the problem of hiring many employees and setting up accounting and management systems. Productivity must be improved to enhance proper management of the business. New products and services must be added, increase the financial strain for a domestic company. For companies aiming to expand internationally, new sources of capital become available. The earnings from the business are passed to shareholders in a company that focuses on domestic expansion. The earnings can also be used in the business as capital to venture into new markets. In a company aiming for international expansion, the earnings are mostly used to increase the market share (Groot, 2010).Advertising Looking fo r essay on business economics? Competition is at its highest, making companies to expand their territories to outdo competitors. Financial resources are diverse. Banks and other investors put all their wealth in the business. In a company focusing on international expansion, products are improved for marketing in other countries. Poor sales, which come with competition, are not witnessed since the products are shifted to countries where demand is high. In contrast, a company that focuses on domestic expansion will have to fight the competition. Competition reduces sales, leading to losses. Dividend payments become a problem for such companies (Stark, 2011). Decline At this final stage, the business becomes liquidated. Profits decline and losses set in. In a company focusing on international expansion, losses made in one market are offset by p rofits made in other countries. Such businesses can borrow finances from various sources since they have a source of security. In contrast, a company that focuses on domestic expansion finds it hard to exist due to high operational costs (Stark, 2007). Conclusion A company that focuses on international expansion enjoys more financial security than the one focusing on domestic expansion. International markets open more grounds for financing, which is a key asset for success of any business. Companies with domestic market are wiped out when competition stiffens. Their sources of finance get limited once the competition sets in since they lack assets for security. References Groot, M. (2010). Review of Molieres The Imaginary Invalid
Review of Molieres The Imaginary Invalid Moliere's 'The Imaginary Invalid' is a farcical play about a hypochondriac who is so obsessed with his health and money that he ends up neglecting his family. The story involves several different themes and plots within one family. A new interpretation of this 17th century play is now being performed at the Arts Club Theater; it incorporates some new changes and modernizations in addition to the traditional improvisation. Morris Panych has definitely succeeded in delivering a new, more comical version of Moliere's final play. Moreover, the dominant theme of this play is body versus mind. The play is about a wealthy, but stingy man who believes that he is constantly sick (Argan). However, there is an obvious doubt to whether he is really sick or if he is just imagining his illness. Therefore, the primary theme is Argan's internal struggle of body vs. mind. This theme is developed throughout the play into smaller themes such as masculinity versus femininity, greed versus love, and death versus life.English: Pura D'or Argan Oil Product: Pure this definitely confuses the original play by Moliere. One of the original purposes of the play was to...

Aristotle and Human Nature Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Aristotle and Human Nature - Essay Example Plato (427-347 BCE) and Aristotle (384-322 BCE) both, defined society in holistic terms and regarded it as an organism in which the constituent parts were necessarily related to the whole. Plato, in particular, laid special emphasis on the unity of the social organism, each individual part clearly defined in terms of its subordination to the whole. Society to Aristotle on the other hand, was a differentiated structure formed of separate elements which, while contributing to the whole, retained their separate entities. To Plato, society was a unified system structured around the division of labour and social inequality. "Social health or social order was the product of 'wise legislation' in which the interests of the whole exerted priority over those of the individual parts." (Smith, Page: 15) On the other hand Aristotle's idea of society was anti-atomistic. The complex and differentiated structure of the social whole was made up of groups and not individuals. The foundations of it lay in human nature; that man was by nature social and political and therefore desired to live with others in communities. Therefore, according to Aristotle, the lives of individuals were invariably linked with each other in a social context. He agrees with Plato that a life of virtue is not only rewarding for the person who is virtuous but also good for the community in which he belongs. He also agrees that the highest form of human existence is that in which man is able to exercise his rational faculties to its fullest. He expounded his theories on moral conduct and human nature in several efforts like Eudemian Ethics and Magna Moralia, but the most complete work which survives to our days is the Nicomachean Ethics. In Nicomachean Ethics, he discusses in length about man's natural desire to a chieve happiness. He then discusses what this happiness means and described human volition and moral deliberation. He described the three different kinds of friendship and the value of each. He then defended his conception of an ideal life which consisted of intellectual pursuit. In his views he agrees with Plato that a life of virtue is not only rewarding for the virtuous but is also beneficial for the society in which the individual belongs. He is also in agreement with Plato when he says that the highest form of human existence is one in which man exercises his rational and mental faculties to their fullest. Both Plato's and Aristotle's philosophies are anti-Sophist. They both attempt to draw a theory of what is the essence of a good life and their theories are based on the foundations of their knowledge about the stable nature of reality. But there the similarities end. "Whereas Plato is a rationalist viewing our knowledge of reality as derived from intuitive reason, and an idea list locating ultimate reality in an eternal, immutable world of Ideas, Aristotle is an empiricist, anchoring all knowledge of reality in perpetual experience, and a realist, identifying reality with the concrete spatio-temporal objects of this world." (Pomerleau, 1997) The central discussion of Nicomachean Ethics, revolves around moral responsibilities of individuals, virtues and vices, and how to achieve happiness in life. The central issue is what it takes for a person to be a good individual. It

My opinion - Essay Example Such technological intelligence has enabled them to be the leaders in some of the most cherished brands of automobiles and machinery in the world. So dedicated in their work, the Germans always believe in perfection and competence in anything they do (Detlev 78).Interestingly, Germans are a people who talk with a lot of specificity and precision. The culture of beating around the bush and hiding the truth is totally news to them. Wrong a German anywhere and they shall reprimand you on the spot! It is common to see most people in several countries proud to be associated with the histories of their countries. In America for instance, the history of the United States is something every American cherishes. On the contrary, the most Germans do not generally feel obligated to associate with the history of their country. Perhaps this is a result of the turbulent nature of the German history. I feel a great learning opportunity exists in the analysis of the German cultural context and how the Germans have managed to hold their country together amid the turbulent nature of the present age. In any case, the whole course was a rich inundating

Richard Wagamese Review Essay Example for Free
Richard Wagamese Review Essay Richard Wagamese, Canadian author who wrote the book ââ¬Å" Indian Horseâ⬠came to speak at Acadia. I was blown away from his speech. He came to the podium, humble and spoke in his native language. He then translated what he had said, welcoming and thanking everyone in the audience. Wagamese then began retelling his past. He started off with the 60ââ¬â¢s scoop, being one of the victims and taken away to a white foster family. He described to have lost family name and his identity. Wagamese faced many hardships in his new home. He described his first feelings of abuse, since he was never hit before; his first hit was so surprising he didnââ¬â¢t know what to feel. Then in school kids would bully him for being ââ¬Å"slowâ⬠, for not being able to spell the alphabet. No one taught him how to learn, and so he tried to learn all by himself. Then, Wagamese told the audience about a particular teacher. She was the one who stuck with him, discovered his terrible vision, got him glasses, and patiently taught him everyday the alphabet. ââ¬Å"Hold on to that story,â⬠Wagamese said. He fast forwarded until he was sixteen. When he discovered he had the rights to leave the foster home. He left, stranded on the streets and starving for food. One night he found a place to sleep. He put his ââ¬Ëniceââ¬â¢ pair of shoes on the side of his head and the next morning they were gone. In March with winter just lifting off and only a pair of socks on, he marched through the wet slush. Along the way a man selflessly helped Wagamese dry off and warm up with a couple of cups of coffee. Again he repeated, ââ¬Å"Hold on to that story.â⬠Wagamese moved to another story about a library he visited everyday to educate himself. A librarian noticed him, how he would come and sit for hours and read. Noticing he was hungry, she took a step ahead and left a lunch bag for him to eat. They eventually connected and from then on Wagamese discovered more about the library from the librarian.

The Fabulous Fifties Essay examples -- essays research papers
à à à à à Some may call it the ââ¬Å"fabulous fifties,â⬠but others call it a time of ââ¬Å"tensions and insecurities.â⬠Several people think back on the fifties and remember them as the ââ¬Å"good old days,â⬠while others think of it as a time of crisis and terror. Although Americans were faced with many hardships throughout the fifties, I think that the positive aspects such as the new technologies, growing economy, higher focus on education, and growing job opportunities of the era outnumber the negative aspects, such as racism that African Americans faced, and the changing roles of women, making the fifties an overall ââ¬Å"happyâ⬠period in American history. à à à à à The fifties are characterized as a watershed period, due to the unparallel growth and change that America socially and economically experienced after WWII. In the years during the War and the Depression there was high employment, low inflation and a yearning for normalcy, and stability in many Americans lives. The fifties changed all of this providing the American culture with prosperity by way of network television, air conditioning, computers, jet travel, a national highway system, chain hotels, and franchised fast food that made businesses boom. The fifties are also characterized as a golden age when everything was simple and innocent. People had peace and prosperity due to the war ending, and they expressed their feelings of excitement and anticipation through their clothing with men dressing in suits and hats, and women in dresses, stockings and heels, and by going out dancing to big bands downtown, and experimenting with the new technologies and organizations of the time. With World War II bringing thousands of men back to America seeking new lives and opportunities, the US experienced an economic expansion like it had never seen before. During the middle of the twentieth century wages increased 22%, family income went up from $3,000 to $5,400, and the Gross National Product increased from $206 billion to $440 billion. In order for the country to meet the demands of the massive consumptions of the American people, industries had to expand and create more efficient ways of selling there products through advertisements, which as a result provided citizens with more job opportunities. à à à à à In my opinion I think that the fifties were defian... ...greater emphasis on engineering and mathematics, which provided a boom in many of these careers. The Government began building technical institutes focused on scientific, and space research encouraging Americans to further their education in these areas. After the Sputnik event, the US economy began to fall. Unemployment grew, and problems were erupting in the White House. Sherman Adams was dismissed for taking bribes, and many people were becoming to think that life was not as good as they thought it was. To many the fifties was a period when the United States prospered and dominated much of the worldââ¬â¢s economy, a time when girls wore poodle skirts and guys wore leather jackets and danced around to Elvis and rock & roll. When Americans began to take advantage of leisure time experiencing new inventions like hula-hoops, Barbie dolls, becoming active in sports like baseball and football, and making television a dominant part of mass media. Although it was also a time when society underwent world shattering changes, it was a period in history that helped stabilized a country that just got out of war and prepared America for the changes that it experiences in the upcoming years.

Law of the Harvest LDS Talk
My dear Brothers and Sisters, It is so good to be with you today. The warmth and love that each of you have is so good to feel and to be part of the fellowship of the saints. Brother XYZ has asked that I talk to the Law of the Harvest. ââ¬Å"Gallations 6:7 ââ¬Å"Whatsoever a man Soweth , that shall he reapâ⬠I wish to first share with you a story. Many years ago when I was working in Sacramento I had to make a trip for work to San Los Opisbo. The funeral was to be in the early afternoon so I could make the trip in one day. I got all my items together. I had maps and directions from map-quest.I knew my direction and I was going to make it there. I got there in no problem but noticed that I took me a little longer then I had planned. Once there service was over I got in the van that I was driving and looked over the map and saw that I just needed to drive on the road I was on and then turn near the town of Avenal and that would get me on I-5. I started out and began driving. Aft er a while I noticed that I hadn't taken the right turn that I had planned on doing. I pulled over and saw that if I stayed on this road I could go into the town of Coalinga and then get I-5 again. But it was going to be more driving on this quite road. I said to myself well I will just have to go faster to make up the time. It felt like forever but I know it was not but I came up over a rise and saw the familiar outline of a highway patrol car. I pulled to the right of the road right as I passed him. His lights came on and over to me and came around behind me. He came over to my window where I had my drivers license and insurance waiting for him. He askeme where I was heading. After a long explanation he saw all my maps and told me that I was going to fast and that I needed to slow down.He let me off but said that if he ever caught me again He would ââ¬Å"throw the book at meâ⬠ââ¬â What did I learn from this lesson of my life. I had made a plan I had the directions and th e path laid our for me. I had a road map but I failed to get on the right road. Then in haste of youth I decided that I would try to race to make up time. Which cost me time. This is like life, Laws are eternal truth that we follow and the direct action of those laws. We can choose to follow the commandments but we CAN NOT CHOOSE the result of that choice. we have the map and course laid out for us to follow. Our leaders guide the way for us to follow. We need to listen to there council and wisdom. We can NOT expect to live a life of sin and of misdeeds and still return back to our Father. But I KNOW that the converse is true. That if we live a life of goodness and of obedience then we shall be welcomed home to our father. Then for life there is redemption. The amazing gift that God has give us through his son Jesus Christ. The way to overcome the consequences of our actions. Like the officer in my story They can grant us forgiveness and met out mercy because justice was served those many years ago in Gessmetine groves and on Calvary's hill.D&C 130 20-21 ââ¬Å"There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicatedââ¬âand when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated. â⬠Take time today to reflect upon your life and the things that you have. I know that you will find that it is a direct reflection of the life that you have lived. Before I continue I need to read another scripture as a clarification Alma Chapter 38 ( Alma speaking to his sone Shiblon. He being a rightous man who was great missionary unto the people of Zoramites And now, my son, I trust that I shall have great joy in you, because of your steadiness and your faithfulness unto God; for as you have commenced in your youth to look to the Lord your God, even so I hope that you will continue in keeping his commandments; for blessed is he that endureth to the end. I say unto yo u, my son, that I have had great joy in thee already, because of thy faithfulness and thy diligence, and thy patience and thy long-suffering among the people of the Zoramites. For I know that thou wast in bonds; yea, and I also know that thou wast stoned for the wordââ¬â¢s sake; and thou didst bear all these things with patience because the Lord was with thee; and now thou knowest that the Lord did deliver thee. And now my son, Shiblon, I would that ye should remember, that as much as ye shall put your trust in God even so much ye shall be delivered out of your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and ye shall be lifted up at the last day. I share that scripture so that none may think that the trails that they have are a ââ¬Ëpunishment' for sin.Trails act as the refiners fire spoken of in 1 Peter 1:7. Elder Sill said this ââ¬Å"One of the distinguishing characteristics of our world is that it is a place of law and order, and the basic law of creation is Godââ¬â¢ s fundamental law of compensation. It says that all work must be paid for, that we can no more do a good thing without sometime, in some way receiving a reward, than we can do an evil thing without suffering a penalty. In everything that we do, including the very thoughts that we think, we are subject to this interesting, undeviating eternal law.It is just as universal in its operation as are the laws of gravity, electricity, light or heat. It is never set aside, it is never suspended or restricted, and it governs in every department of human activity. Nothing is ever denied to well-directed effort and nothing is ever achieved without it. It is a thrilling challenge, that we may have any blessing that we are willing to live for. And the primary law of the universe is this immutable,â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.. irrevocable law of the harvest that says, ââ¬ËWhatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ââ¬â¢ ( Gala. 6:7 ) ( The Law of the Harvest, p. 1. ) Think of it my fellow saints D& C 82: 10 I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise. You need to make the choice today the kind of person you want to become and then do what is required to become that son or daughter of God. In my calling I work with the young men. I invite them to chart the course they want to take. If you lay out the course and you make your plans the small choices along the way are easier to make. The blessings are real I have seen them in my life and they can happen in your life.Sometimes other people are in your path that make living the gospel hard. I think of a story from my mission days. My mission president would from time to time send me a missionary that needed some guidance. Elder XYZ was one such Elder. He had a sleeping problem. He would sleep until 10, 11 maybe even noon and then get up to work. When I received the assignment. I was told that I needed to help him not by being the school master but by a quite example of love and com passion. Each morning I would rise at the appointed hour and begin my day. I would follow all the mission rules that I could.I tried with all my might to find people for us to teach and the work with. We began to teach these people when Elder Allen would rise we would begin our day. Brothers and Sisters the Lord blessed us with some amazing people to teach and baptize. Elder XYZ knew it I knew it and President XYZ knew that is was obedience to the rules of the mission and to what we needed to do that produced that fruit. The Lord was bound to help these people as a result of simple Elder ABC following the mission rules. Many times we just need to follow the commandments and as a result og our actions people lives are blessed. This most often happens with church leaders or those who are charged with helping people along the path of life. Because of ones faithful discharge then another is blessed Brother CFD was a faithful home teacher he would go out and visit the people that he had o n his route. Most if not all of them never came to church. He had a name on his list of Brother ERD. For four long years he would go to this man's home and talk with him and invite him to come back. He would get the same answer each time. ââ¬Å"Nope not this weekâ⬠A change started to come over him as he saw this faithful brother. Then one week he came to church. The ward welcomed him back and he became interested in the work that needed to get done. His wife had to be baptized and his grand kids needed names placed on the roles of the church. He came back to the fold of God because one man decided to share his time with another and follow the charge that he had as a priesthood leader. As we serve others two things happen. 1- Lives of the people change and are made easier or they get stuff that are given to them 2- the people giving the service are rewarded for the work they are done. This reward or compensation is both physical and also spiritual. Alpha was the President of his Teachers quorum , I was the advisor, One Sunday about two years ago we heard that brother YTR had a bad accident and would not be able to mow his lawn. In Priesthood we talked about the needs of Brother YTR and the Bishop told Alpha to get the lawn mowed. Alpha a young 15 year old , holder of the Priesthood of God, planned on going to this house. They got rides for the boys that needed them. They got lawn mowers and edgers. Then They called me.Alpha told me that They were going to there on Wednesday and thought I should know. I was surprised that it was planned. I told him that I could be there and would bring a watermelon if they wanted. He said sure and I was there at the home. Alpha and his fellow members of the Aaronic Priesthood provided service and were blessed. I was taught by these ââ¬Å"boysâ⬠and they taught each other. These stories are not unique, you all have these same stories of obedience to a law of God and cherish in the blessings that you received . Each tim e that story is shared the blessings are relived and your excitement is filled.I want to warn us all to not think that these blessings are ours and ours alone. Many faithful people of all religions are given blessings and can feel of the Law of the Harvest. The lord is the same yesterday today and forever and when we do a righteous thing we will be blessed. For those of us who have strayed and who need help getting back on the path there is hope. Christ paid the price for our sin and know how to welcome us back. Luke 8 4- 15 Christ taught the parable of the sower And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they, wh ich in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Verse 13 tells of the hope that we have for these who fall away for a time. Let us do what we can to bring them back. The atonement of Christ is for all. I know that as a man soweth so shall he reap.

Questions to Ask When Hiring a Lawyer
Choosing a lawyer can be the most important decision an immigrant makes. Before hiring legal counsel, take the time to find out what youre getting. Here are the questions you should ask during an interview with a prospective attorney. What to Ask an Immigration Lawyer How long have you been practicing immigration law?ââ¬âThere is no substitute for experience when it comes to handling the most challenging cases. Itââ¬â¢s important that your attorney not only knows the law but also understands the process. Donââ¬â¢t be afraid to ask about the lawyerââ¬â¢s background and credentials, either. It can be a good idea to talk to a former client and ask how things went. Are you a member of AILA?ââ¬âThe American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is a national organization of more than 11,000 attorneys and law professors who practice and teach immigration law. Be wary if you hear something that sounds too good to be true. It just might be.What can I do to improve my Chances for success?ââ¬âTry to be a working partner in your own cause. Get your lawyer the documents or information she or he requires as soon as possible. Make sure you are forthcoming and that the information you give about yourself is accurate and compl ete. Get involved and learn the legal terminology. Can you give me an estimate of how long my case will be resolved?ââ¬âIt is always difficult to come up with a precise timetable when youââ¬â¢re dealing with the government, especially when it comes to immigration issues. But an experienced attorney can give you at least a rough estimate of what the schedule ahead might look like. You also can check on your case status directly with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.Who will be working on my case besides you?ââ¬âSupport staff can be critical. Ask about any paralegals, investigators, researchers or even secretaries that will be assisting your attorney. Itââ¬â¢s good to know their names and understand their roles. If there are language or translation issues, find out who might speak your language in the office. How will we communicate with each other?ââ¬âFind out if the lawyer wants to talk by phone, or communicate by emails, text messages or overni ght mail. Many attorneys still rely on traditional postal services (snail mail) to do much of the work. If that doesnââ¬â¢t suit you, make other arrangements or hire someone else. Donââ¬â¢t leave the office or turn off the phone without getting all the contact information you will need. If youââ¬â¢re overseas, you need to think about time differentials when youââ¬â¢re calling or text messaging. What is your rate and your best estimate of the total cost?ââ¬âAsk what type of payment the lawyer accepts (are credit cards OK?) and when you will be billed. Ask for a breakdown of the charges and see if there are any ways to minimize the cost. Find out if there are any extra expenses that might come up.
